Each week, we'll be featuring a past or current project that we're excited about. This week, fINK PRESS in collaboration with the 11th Hour Audio Challenge is delighted to announce our new audio drama, Punching Out, written by Jenni Stukin and our own Ruby Fink.
The dark comedy follows a group of coworkers who fight for their lives as a zombie apocalypse breaks out around them, upending the world as they know it. The story focuses on Rosie and her last day at the office and Clea, her longtime friend and secret admirer. Just as the office is preparing to celebrate Rosie and her five years at the company, news reaches them that a deadly virus has been spreading across the country, causing violence and aggression in the infected. When one of the staff is attacked outside, the severity of the situation sinks in.
The quirky office crew–optimistic pacifist Atlas, sarcastic and gruff Melby, bold and witty Marge, and awkward and persistent Dave–must abruptly shift gears, transforming from lighthearted coworkers into reluctant survivalists. Under Melby's assertive leadership, they barricade the doors, stockpile food, search for functional weapons, and brace themselves for whatever the apocalypse throws their way.
Throughout the chaos, moments of levity emerge as each character reveals more of their true nature beneath the professional facade. Atlas, though transparently devoted to love and unity from the beginning, meets a grisly end whilst attempting to connect with a zombie child, highlighting the futility of his pacifist beliefs in such dire circumstances. Melby and Marge indulge in the most human of desires for intimacy in an uncertain time, and Dave, in an attempt to impress his crush Rosie, hides a deadly secret which places everyone in danger.
As the situation becomes increasingly hopeless, Clea finally confesses her feelings for Rosie, and together, they make a stand against the infected hordes before securing themselves in a bank vault. Though they don't know what the future may bring, they cling to hope that they will be found and that there will be a world for them to share when they emerge.
Starring the talented voices of the fINK PRESS team, Hannah Edelson and Violet Fink, as featuring the exceptional Corey McCarey, Chris Jowers, Bethany Murray, and Jonathon Garret Swenson, this silly, spooky, and at times, sexy comedy horror podcast is perfect to tune into if you're not quite ready to let go of Halloween.
